Exciting finish to Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic in Melton as Trinity Racing take top position

An exciting finish to the Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic entertained awaiting crowds yesterday as the 17th edition of the race came to a finish in Sherrard Street in Melton.

Luke Lamperti took the top spot with an impressive time of 4hr38m33s tightly contested by Tijl De Decker from Lotto DSTNY Development Team with the same time but just missing out on the number one slot. Cycling Sheffield's James McKay came third in classic which is Britain's only single international road race.

Rain didn't put off supporters with a steady flow of spectators lining the streets to watch the first lap of the town which happened just before a light shower ahead of the spectacular finish.

The race started in Oakham at 11am in the morning flagged off by Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearns before battling through challenging conditions through many villages in the Rutland and Melton area.

34 teams lined up and riders from over 20 nations including seven current National Champions the race with 70 riders making it over the finish line.

Prizes for the winners were presented by Cllr Alan Hewson, Mayor of Melton Borough.
