WEEKEND FOOTBALL: Melton Town face league leaders and Holwell are back on home soil

Melton Town V Long Eaton United - Saturday - 3pm:

Melton Town welcome Long Eaton United to the 3G at Sign Right Park on Saturday afternoon, hoping to continue a hot-streak that has seen them score nine goals without reply in their past two matches.

A 4-0 victory over Deeping Rangers last Saturday was followed by a 5-0 triumph over Eastwood on Tuesday. Those wins have lifted Town to seventh in the league and have banished the memories of a four game winless run, however, that streak did include creditable draws away from home against Heather St. John’s and Heanor Town.

The Blues arrive at Melton Sports Village off the back of eight straight league wins. In all, they have won 15 and drawn two in the league this year. Long Eaton’s only defeats this season were away from home in the cup competitions. A 3-2 defeat at step three Stratford Town knocked them out of the FA Cup in the third qualifying round, having defeated three step four sides en-route. The Blues received a bye to the second round of the FA Vase but that saw them suffer a shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of step six Atherstone Town.

Alexander Marshall continued his incredible form last weekend, scoring his 20th goal of the season, away to Loughborough University. Marshall has scored in four straight matches and has hit the back of the net eight times in that stretch. Marshall previously helped Ilkeston to promotion from step five in 2018/19, scoring 23 times in 35 matches.

The two sides met at Grange Park earlier this season with the home side emerging 3-0 victors, thanks to goals from Alexander Marshall, Jamie Walker and James Shaw. That match took place in late August and was just the third league match for both sides.

KICK OFF: 3pm - Signright Park, Burton Road, Melton Mowbray.

Holwell Sports V Aylestone Park FC - Saturday - 3pm:

Holwell Sports are back on home soil this weekend as they welcome second placed Aylestone Park FC to Welby Road for a 3pm kick off. Aylestone have won 16 of their 24 games played, drawing 3 and losing only 5 matches so far this season.

3 of those losses for the visitors have come in their last 6 games so Holwell could get a home win if they play their cards right. The visitors are going into the game having lost last weekend at home to Lutterworth Athletic in a 3-2 defeat.

The leagues current top scorer is assigned to the visitors with Shay Brennan scoring 43 goals in his last 24 appearances for Aylestone Park.

It will be a tough game for Holwell who have won 8 games so far this season and only winning 1 game out of their last 6 but interestingly this was away to Lutterworth Athletic on the 20th November. Something which could go in their favour against Aylestone Park this afternoon if they go with the same style of play.

If the team aren’t too disheartened following their 1-0 defeat away to Barrow Town last weekend, they could steal 3 points this afternoon on home turf.

KICK OFF: 3pm Welby Road, Asfordby Hill.
