A606 closed following collision

A car has collided with a lamppost resulting in a small stretch of road in Melton being closed.


Emergency services attended the scene close to The Crescent junction just after 06:00 this morning.


The collision happened just after 6am on Bank Holiday Monday. The HGVs in the image are not involved in the incident. Photo: NEMM


One appliance from Melton Mowbray Fire & Rescue Station also attended the incident to make the vehicle safe.

East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the incident.


The road is currently closed from the Asfordby Road junction for traffic heading to Nottingham and The Crescent for drivers coming in to town.


A local diversion is in place while the lamppost is inspected.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 6am today (Monday 1 May) police were made aware of single vehicle collision in Nottingham Road, Melton.


The incident involved a car colliding with a lamppost.


Leicestershire Fire and Rescue and the East Midlands Ambulance Service were also at the scene.


The driver of the car, a woman, was taken to hospital for a possible injury to her hand. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.


The road was closed while the incident was dealt with has since been reopened."
