Firefighters tackling wildfire as hot weather continues

Firefighters are currently tackling a wildfire just off Burton Road in Melton.

Fire Control received a call at 13:04 to reports of a grass fire. It comes as hot weather continues to hit the UK creating tough conditions for fire crews.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said there were currently five appliances and a water carrier at the scene.

Fire appiances have from Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue Service are also in attendance.

It's been confirmed the size of the area on fire is approximately 10 acres.

Residents have been advised to avoid the area and close doors and windows to avoid smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
