Football United event brings together some of the area's finest footballers in 60 year celebration

Footballers, Managers, coaches and volunteers from the Melton & Rutland football community came together at a special event hosted by Melton Town FC.

'Football Reunited' was put together by the club and hosted at their newly opened Pitchside Lounge and was open to anyone from the football community who was active between 1960 and 2020 marking 60 years of local sport.

Players from a number of teams including Melton Town, Holwell Sports, Asfordby FC, Cottesmore Amateurs and Petfoods were among the visitors who were invited to catch up on times gone by and remember those sadly no longer with us.

Peter Thornton who played for a number of local teams including Asfordby Village, Frisby Sunday and Petfoods was one of those who attended and said it was great to bring people back together.

He said: "It's been really good because there's so many people who, though football, I've made so many friends with and to bring them all together in our later years is absolutely brilliant. What John Manship has done here is fantastic, such a great idea."

Melton Town FC's home game was unfortunately called off today (Saturday) due to pitch issues which are now resolved. Melton Town FC play at Signright Park in Burton Road and regularly have some of the biggest crowds in the league.

Comedy at the Pitchside Lounge is the next event at the ground on 16th March, featuring Melton comic Jon Pearson, Britain's Got Talent's Jonny Awsum and Freddie Farrell.

Tickets are on sale now priced at £10 a ticket which includes a curry. Tickets are available by clicking here.
