Major Melton road to close for three weeks to allow for bypass works

A major Melton road will be closed for most of January 2024 to allow for service diversion works to be carried out as part of the new Melton Mowbray Distributor Road works taking place.

The A606 Burton Road will be closed from 6am on Monday 8th January to midnight on Sunday 29th January to carry out the works across the A606. Signed diversion routes will be in place and will be clearly signposted.

  • Traffic from the north A46 and Nottingham heading south to Oakham/Stamford will be diverted via A46 > A52 > A1 > A606 for Stamford/Rutland and Oakham.

  • Traffic from the south heading north will be diverted via the A1 > A607 for Melton and A1 > A52 for Nottingham.

  • Traffic from Melton can use the diversion route via the A607 to the A1 to head south.

  • Note: The A606 Nottingham Road in and out of Melton will remain open.

As part of the roadworks plan listed on the one.network website, which replaces the County Council listings of planned road closures, the A606 Nottingham Road was listed as being closed for a long period next year.

Initially displaying a closure for 17th May 2024 - 5th July 2024, however this has since been removed from the site.

A spokesperson from Leicestershire County Council confirmed that the roadworks page on the NEMMDR website would be updated when 'firm road closure plans are put in to place'.
