Melton Mowbray Town Estate confirm event is cancelled - two hours after it was meant to start - as families left disappointed

Melton Mowbray Town Estate has confirmed that tonight's cinema night and tomorrow's 'Reggae Pon De Park' events have been cancelled in a post on social media.

In a statement while they say they cannot share any more information at this time they cite 'third party supplier issues' as the reason for cancellation.

They wrote: "We are very sorry to announce that, due to escalating third-party supplier issues, we have had to cancel this afternoon’s Cinema Night (The Minecraft Movie & Toy Story 5, 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM) in Play Close Park at very short notice."

It's not the first time the Town Estate have cancelled their events. Back in July they had to revise its schedule of events as the 'events village' to reflect the popularity of events and recent circumstances.

It also comes off the back of them not paying artists for the cancelled 'Country On The Eye' event in June as we reported earlier this month.

This latest disaster comes as familes were excited to watch 'The Minecraft Movie' and 'Toy Story 5' in the Play Close but were left gutted when the Town Estate's planned event was a no show.

Saturday's reggae event has been postponed until Sunday 30th August with a slight location change. The event is moving from the Events Village to the Melton Bandstand (Play Close Park/New Park). This will remain a free event to attend.

Adding to the statement they say: "We know how much families were looking forward to this, and we share your disappointment."

Many parents took to social media earlier on Friday to query whether the event was taking place.

One wrote: "Its ridiculous that nothing has been posted on this page saying the event is cancelled. I called the number and the person on the phone at the town estate didn't know whether it was on or not. As an event organiser, I can not belive no-one knows whats happening. And now we have 2 upset kids who were excited to see the films. Such poor organisation."

Another was in the park and said nothing was set up.

They said: "Is this actually happening? We are in the park and there's nothing here."

While a third put: "Should be so embarrassed!! There’s a family sat near me trying to explain to the kids why they’ve now got to find something else to do!"

Melton Mowbray Town Estate published their statement online on Friday evening, two hours after the event was due to start.
