REVIEW: Peter Pan flies in to Melton Theatre and it doesn't disappoint

Updated: Dec 16, 2022

Trio Entertainment have arrived back in to Melton Mowbray as Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinkerbell and friends have transformed Melton Theatre in to a magical wonderland.

Staring Emmerdale legend Peter Amory who is best known for playing Chris Tate in the ITV soap, the cast are back after a two year break and it's so good to have them back.

Hollie Jones is a new face to the cast this year as she takes on the role of Peter Pan and her time at Roms Theatre Arts was well spent as she makes the character shine with her energetic style and brilliant singing voice, especially when she teams up with Wendy (Felicity Cowell-Clark) and the pair sing a classic from a hit musical (you'll see when you watch it!).

Felicity was working with Trio last year on Snow White and you can see why they have brought her back, she too has an energetic stage presence as she guides the lost children through Neverland and was a hit with the audience on Wednesday night during the opening show.

The panto has everything you want at Christmas time, a brilliant cast, a wonderful storyline and fun and laughter all the way through, with the odd funny song thrown in for good measure.

The hilarious Stuart Earp is back this year along with Chelsey Thorley-Williams - the talented duo work very well together on the stage as Chelsey brings to life the character of Island Chief and Splice. Chelsey has also undertook the role of Choreographer for the show and what a great job she has done.

Stuart's Lee Evans style stage presence helps to deliver his lines and jokes perfectly as he is welcomed back by the audience each year with smiles and laughter through his time on stage.

Treading the Melton Theatre boards for the first time with Trio is the hilarious and very talented Jordan Bateman as he shares his huge talent in the role of Mrs Smee and what a great job he does of it too. His lines, adhoc comments and face gestures will make your face hurt from laughing. Definitely one to watch during the show.

A panto wouldn't be a panto without some sillyness and a stand out from this show is the brilliant 'Wasn't In Neverland' song where chaos ensues as more and more lines are added to the song, brilliantly handled by everyone in the scene, none more so than Jennifer Hatfull (Tinkerbell) who is at the start of the line and her brilliant singing voice kicks off the song with a bang, she also has the most work to do in our opinion during the song!

There were plenty of hisses and boos as the legendary and highly talented Peter Amory arrived on stage, his role of Captain Hook is perfect for his great acting and line delivery.

When he, Smee and Mrs Smee deliver classic 'dad jokes' as perfect as could be, you will need to make sure you can still here the cast over your laughing!

The ensemble includes talented dancers Jenna Moffat and Milly Glynn who will help tell the tale of Peter Pan with their brilliant dancing and singing.

Peter Pan, Wendy and Team are in town until Monday with both matinee and evening performances with some tickets remaining.

The team deserve a huge 9/10 for the show which will leave you feeling very Christmassy indeed. It could easily be a 10 though with how much the crocodile burp made the audience laugh!

A thoroughly enjoyable evening out so grab your tickets now.

Tickets are £14.50 for adults, £13 for concessions and are available by clicking here.
