A team of contractors from Melton's distributor road have helped transform a local charity shop's car park with help from their project delivery partners.

GallifordTry along with their delivery partners Holcim, Collins, Martin TME and D&W worked together on the site at The Hanger in Scalford Road which raises money for the Air Ambulance Service.

The car park on the Scalford Road site has been in a state of repair for a while now with pot holes and uneven road surfaces and was in need of a costly refurb.

A spokesperson for GallifordTry said: "We held a meeting with the Air Ambulance Services Melton Mowbray charity superstore “The Hanger” and discussed how we could support this vital charity. We established that they needed more suitable car parking space to accommodate visitors to the store and needed to upgrade the access area. We have refurbished the rear car park and repaired the potholes and damaged access areas."

The Hanger won the accolade of the 'UK's Favourite Charity Shop' in 2024 and helps to raise much needed funds to keep the aircrafts flying alongside a critical care road vehicle.

It also funds the Children's Air Ambulance which providers lifesaving transfers for crtiically ill babies and children across the UK.

An average mission costs the service around £2,300 which can help deliver lifesaving staff and treatment to injured people quickly. Last year they attended 3,779 missions.

Lee Dillow. Head of Trading Transformation and Property Air Ambulance Services said: “I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the MMDR team and GallifordTry for levelling and resurfacing our car park at Melton Mowbray shop. This is a major improvement that enhances our site and experience for every visitor, volunteer, and supporter. This project simply would not have been possible without Galliford Try and the MMDR project delivery team, we are truly grateful for their time and investment.”

The contractors have also been working hard on the Melton Mowbray Distributor Road which is due to open in March 2026. All roundabouts have been completed and joined to the main road network and works are going on to get the road ready for its openning.
