Leicestershire County Council will implement traffic calming measures in a bid to reduce issues as Thorpe Road is set to close for 12 days.
We initially reported that permission had been granted by Leicestershire County Council for an 8 day closure to allow for drainage and resurfacing for the new Snowden Housing development on the site of the former hospital.
The County Council did originally respond to our questions from residents about the signage and diversions following issues when Thorpe Road closed for emergency repairs in December 2022.
The closure has now been extended from Monday 4th March to Sunday 17th March.
Leicestershire County Council Highways has agreed to a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order as part of the new works.
The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order will be implemented for public safety for HVSS and Phoenix Surfacing on behalf of Snowden Homes to facilitate carriageway improvement and drainage works.
The following restrictions are required to undertake the works safely from Monday 4th March until Sunday 17th March 2024:
· A temporary road closure and a Prohibition of Waiting at Any Time on Thorpe Road.
· A temporary one way and Prohibition of Waiting at any Time Kings Road from Algernon Road to Limes Avenue
· Bayswater Road from Stafford Avenue to Salisbury Avenue
· Lime Avenue from Kings Road to Salisbury Avenue
· Salisbury Avenue from Lime Avenue to Belvoir St
· Belvoir Street from Salisbury Avenue to Thorpe Road
· Algernon Road from Stafford Ave to Kings Road
· A temporary 7.5tonne weight restriction at the junction on Melton Spinney Road from Thorpe Road
· A temporary 7.5 tonne weight restriction on Thorpe Road from Melton Spinney Road
The proposed alternative diversion routes will be signed on site.

Melton Spinney Road will also be closed for the ongoing Melton Mowbray Distributor Road works from 26th February - 1st March. More information here.
