Residents in Melton were awoken last night to the sounds of sirens and the police helicopter overhead.
Police have now confirmed that they were following a car believed to be involved in a burglary in March, Cambridgeshire. Just over 50 miles from Melton.
Police were seen around the town during the incident which happened around 23:00 last night (Wednesday).
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) were called in to assist the pursuit which took place across a number of counties before the driver stopped in Melton Mowbray and ran off from officers.

A Cambridgeshire Police Spokesperson said: "This relates to a burglary in March yesterday (17 November) lunchtime. A vehicle which was believed to have been involved was tracked across counties and eventually stopped in Melton Mowbray, the driver ran from the vehicle and has not yet been found. The investigation continues.
NPAS provides all police forces in England and Wales with air support for a number of different scenarios.
