Planners at Melton Borough Council have received an application to turn the car park of a former print distributor in to a 'hand car wash'.
The application was received by officials on 1st September for 1 Norman Way on the corner of Scalford Road and Norman Way and has already generated more than 40 objections on the planning website.
A 'design access statement' on the planning portal states that "it supports a planning application for the installation of a new car wash facility at Midland House, 1 Norman Way, Melton Mowbray, on an existing hard-standing car park. The proposed development includes wash, dry, and valeting areas at the rear of the building while retaining the existing staff parking."

It goes on to say that the scheme will support the local economy by creating jobs associated with the operation and maintenance of the car wash but hasn't specified how many jobs could be created if planners give it the go-ahead.

Work at the site would involve the installation of a canopy covering the wash and dry areas, the addition of screens on the back and side elevations to contain water and the creation of five kerbs and two transitions (one at each side) to manage circulation.

The site access section states that the existing entrance and exit will be retained off Soho Street but the applicant also wants to add a vehicle exit on to Scalford Road. It's unclear whether this will be exit only or both entrance and exit as the drawings within the application state both.
The public are welcome to object or support the application on the Melton Borough Council website by clicking here. The application reference is 25/00915/FUL
