A reminder to parents and children about the dangers of playing on the railway has been issued after children were spotted walking on a live railway line near Melton.
A driver working on the test track between Asfordby and Melton had to perform an emergency stop yesterday (Thursday) after spotting four children walking on the railway line in front of the train, which can reach speeds of up to 125mph.
As well as the risk of being hit by a moving train people have been reminded that the live track, which is used for testing trains, also carriers electricity via overhead wires which are charged to 25,000 volts. The tracks themselves also carry 750v worth of electricity through them.

A Network Rail spokesperson told NEMM: "“The railway is an incredibly dangerous place and trespassing is illegal. The Old Dalby test track remains active for testing new trains and technology.
We urge people to remember that trespassing can have devastating consequences for themselves, their families, rail colleagues and the wider community."
The Old Dalby Test Track, which runs between Melton and Edwalton, opened in 1966. It's currently operated by GB Railfreight on behalf of Network Rail. It's been used for a variety of train tests including Virgin Pendolino trains and stock for the London Underground.
