Emergency services scrambled to help fallen horse rider

Emergency services raced to help a horse rider who had fallen from a bridge in to a ditch on Sunday.

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service alongside the Air Ambulance Service attended the incident in Sewstern Road in Wymondham just after 12:30 on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire & Rescue said: "We were called 12:39 (26 July) to reports of a horse and rider who had fallen from a bridge into a ditch on Sewstern Road in Wymondham."

"Crews from Birstall, Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Coalville and Southern Fire Stations (including our Technical Rescue Team) attended, along with the Air Ambulance Service. 

The rider managed to self-extricate and was assessed by air ambulance crews."

An update from the Air Ambulance Service said: "Helimed54 were tasked to a horse riding incident in Melton at 13:05 and were on scene at 13:18. The crew landed in a nearby field before leaving the patient with another service."

The horse also climbed out of the ditch and was assessed by a local vet.
