The road has been closed since 3rd December after a water main burst leading to local driveways and the road surface being severely damaged.

A diversion is in place via Thorpe Road and Freeby Lane in Waltham On The Wolds, and the A1 for larger vehicles, but this isn't helped by temporary traffic lights on Thorpe Road following another burst main which has since been repaired.

Speaking to NEMM on Wednesday evening A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “The damage to the surface of Saxby Road is quite extensive and while we are working hard to get it repaired as quickly as possible, it is likely to be another seven days before the road is fully reopened.

“We understand that this is an inconvenience and would like to offer our sincere apologies for any disruption while we complete the reinstatement process.”

The burst main has been repaired at both Saxby Road and Thorpe Road but the road repairs are taking longer than expected.

Severn Trent Water have confirmed there are no plans to close Thorpe Road while repairs are carried out to the road.
