Firefighters Deal With Chemical Incident In Thurmaston

Firefighters and specialist teams are currently dealing with a chemical incident in Thurmaston.


Crews were called to Earls Way, Thurmaston at 08:06 this morning following reports of a white chemical leaking from a drum on to the ground.







Fire teams from Eastern & Birstall and a hazardous materials and environmental protection unit from Coalville attended along with a Support Appliance.


A statement from Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Call to reports of a white chemical leaking from a drum onto the ground, on arrival found to be approx 40 litres of an unknown substance leaking.

Road closures put in place on Earls way and Church Hill road, including pedestrian walkways.

There are no casualties reported and investigations currently underway to identify chemical.

Leak currently contained and drains blocked to prevent any substance entering the watercourse.


Following specialist advice Fire Service are currently containing and absorbing the liquid at the scene and arranging for attendance of Highways to assist with cleansing the road to enable reopening of the carriageway."
