Investigation underway after collision involving two school girls and a car

A main road in Melton was closed this morning (Tuesday) following a collision between a car and two school girls.


Emergency services were sent to the incident at the junction of The Crescent just after 8am on Tuesday morning and the road remained closed while investigations take place. It reopened just after 12:45 on Tuesday.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a collision in Scalford Road in Melton Mowbray, just after 8.05am today (Tuesday 7 November).

The collision involved two schoolgirls and a car. The road has been closed off while emergency services deal with the incident.

Ambulance and Air Ambulance also attended the scene."

Brownlow Primary School has sent a message to parents to thank the local community and members of staff from nearby John Ferneley College, who rushed to help the girls.


In a message to parents, seen by NEMM, the message from Headteacher Vicky Sellars said: "I just wanted to inform you that two of our pupils were involved in an accident on the way to school this morning on Scalford Road.


We wish to thank the members of the local community and staff from John Ferneley College who responded without hesitation. We are supporting pupils and staff in school where it is needed and our thoughts are with the pupils, families and friends of those involved."


Mrs Russell Assistant Headteacher at John Ferneley College also wrote to parents and said: "There was an accident this morning on Scalford Road, involving two primary age (Brownlow) students. Both students are stable and have been taken to hospital - our thoughts are with them.


We wish to thank members of the local community and staff and students from John Ferneley College who responded without hesitation."


Both pupils were taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham for assessment of their injuries.


Scalford Road was re-opened at 12:45 on Tuesday afternoon.
