Man dies following car fire in Melton

Police have confirmed that a man has died following a car fire in Melton Mowbray last night.


Leicestershire Fire & Rescue service were called to a car fire in Kirby Road, Melton at 9:16pm by a passer by reporting that a car was alight on the verge and a male was involved in fire.


Fire Crews attended the incident and provided emergency casualty care to the man along with East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A Leicestershire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: "We were called by a passer-by at 9.16pm following reports of a car involved in fire on the grass verge. When we arrived it was confirmed there was one vehicle well alight and a male was also involved in fire. We provided casualty care to the male who was then handed over to East Midlands Ambulance Service. Two breathing apparatus and one hose reel were used to extinguish the vehicle fire."


Kirby Road was closed between Leicester Road in Kirby Bellars and Station Road/Top End in Great Dalby while emergency services attended the incident.


Police issued an update via social media confirming the road was re-opened at 23:46.


In a statement Leicestershire Police said: "Shortly before 9.30pm yesterday (Monday 18 October) officers were called to Leicester Road in Kirby Bellars by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service following a report a car was alight.


It was reported that a man was inside the vehicle. He was subsequently taken to hospital but died as a result of his injuries.


The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner."
