A controversial planning application to build up to 298 homes on a contaminated former factory site has been withdrawn from the agenda of tonight's planning meeting.

The agenda was updated early on Thursday morning with the meeting set to go ahead tonight as planned with the rest of the agenda unchanged.

The application submitted by Worthearly Ltd is for redevelopment of the former Jeld Wen site in Snow Hill to build 298 dwellings.

However documents submitted as part of the application show that the developers were refusing to contribute to local services due to the cost to fix the land contamination.

It has not been made clear why the application has been withdrawn from tonight's planning meeting or whether it will be held at a dedicated committee meeting in the future.

Tonight's planning meeting now focusses on one application - at the Red Lion in Stathern. The planning committee will hear about the plan for partial demolition of Red Lion Inn and conversion to 1 dwelling; conversion of outbuilding to 1 dwelling & construction of no. 4 new dwellings to the rear together with associated boundary treatments, parking & landscaping.

A spokesperson for Melton Borough Council said: “Our officers are reviewing this application and are continuing to work with the applicant and County Council to resolve some outstanding issues. Once our officers are satisfied that this work is complete, the application will be considered by the Planning Committee at a future meeting.”

The Red Lion application will be discussed in front of the planning committee this evening (Thursday) at 6pm in Parkside, Station Approach, Melton. The meeting is open to the public and will also be streamed live on Youtube.
