Traffic incident shuts major Melton road

Sherrard Street in Melton Town Centre is closed following a traffic incident.

Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Fire & Rescue attended the incident along with colleagues from East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

The road is currently closed from the junction of Sage Cross Street and Windsor Street with police advising the public to avoid the area.

It has not been confirmed what has caused the closure. Surrounding roads including Norman Way and Thorpe End are currently busy.

A Leicestershire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: "We received a call at 13:01 to an RTC on Sherrard Street, Melton Mowbray. Crew from Melton Station are in attendance and Ambulance and Police aware."

The road remains closed in both directions.
