Village street left without water for more than a week

Residents of a street in Waltham-On-The-Wolds near Melton have been left with little to no water for 12 days following a water leak nearby.

Some people living in Mere Road resorted to asking a private contractor to help locate the issue after they felt they were getting no where with authorities.

A relative of one of the homeowners, who didn't want to be named, said: "A man has been today and reckons he knows where it is, but he's got to get the contract from the council to do it. We got him off our own back to come and help us. It's a private company whose come out for free to try and help us locate the leak."

NEMM contacted Severn Trent Water on Friday morning but was informed that the leak isn't part of their network and is on private land owned by the Council.

A spokesperson for Melton Borough Council said: “We are aware of an ongoing water supply issue affecting some households in Waltham on the Wolds. We have been working with Severn Trent and our contractors and have now identified the source of the problem.

“We recognise the significant impact this issue is having on those affected and resolving it as quickly as possible remains a priority. Our officers remain in regular contact with affected tenants, providing support where needed. We will continue to work with our contractors to help bring the issue to a resolution as quickly as possible.”

NEMM asked Melton Borough Council if they will be providing bottled water to residents and is awaiting a response.
