Boy arrested following Melton stabbing as police appeal for witnesses

A 15 year old boy has been arrested following a stabbing in Melton this evening (Monday).


Emergency services were scrambled to the incident earlier this evening including the Air Ambulance which landed nearby.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "At 6.30pm, a call was received reporting that a youth and a woman were involved in a fight outside a property in Discovery Drive.


Officers attended alongside colleagues from the East Midlands Ambulance Service and on arrival found that the woman – who is in her 20s – had suffered serious injuries.


She was taken to hospital for treatment and remains in a critical condition."

A 15-year-old boy was subsequently arrested and remains in custody.


Detective Inspector Jim Heggs said: “The investigation is very much in its early stages and officers are continuing to speak to residents in the area where the incident occurred.

“However, I would ask anyone who saw what happened or has information that could help to come forward. I would particularly urge anyone with mobile phone, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact police.


“Anything you can provide, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could assist us.”

Scenes of crimes officers and detectives have been seen in the area carrying out door to door enquiries and the house is sealed off as investigations continue.

Leicestershire Police confirmed on Tuesday morning that the boy remains in custody and the woman remains in hospital in a stable condition.


A spokesperson said: "Officers are continuing to investigate but from enquiries carried out so far we know the boy and the woman are known to each other and police are not looking for anyone else."
