Fire crews attend kitchen incident at local hospice

Fire crews from two fire stations attended an incident at Dove Cottage this morning following reports of a fire at the hospice.


Two fire engines from Melton Fire & Rescue Station and one from Grantham attended the incident on Canal Lane, Stathern just after 8:20 this morning (Wednesday).


A Leicestershire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: "We were in attendance at a fire at Dove Cottage Day Hospice this morning

 

The time of the call was 8.22 am to reports of a fire. Two fire appliances from Melton Station attended, along with a fire appliance from Grantham (Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service).

 

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, and one main jet were in use."

The fire was located in the ground-floor kitchen in an extraction unit and no injuries have been reported.


Electrics were isolated, and the fire was extinguished. The spokesperson added that the time of the stop message was 9.26 am.


Dove Cottage issued a brief statement on social media this morning which said they were going to be closed for the rest of the day.


The statement read: "We have had an emergency situation at Dove Cottage Day Hospice today and will be closed all day. Everyone is fine. We will update with further updates later in the day. Many thanks for your understanding and continued support."


Dove Cottage Day Hospice is a purpose-built hospice is based in the small rural village of Stathern, near Melton.


They offer a full range of services to local families completely free of charge, including; nursing support and advice, companionship, activities, music, crafts, relaxation, and complementary therapies. 


They also offer a range of support services to family members and carers, including dementia support and bereavement counselling.
