Firefighters from Melton Fire Station were involved in the rescue of an elderly lady who had driven in to a canal.
Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service were alerted to the incident by the police at 12:12 today (Wednesday) where a car had been driven in to the canal on Canal Bank, Loughborough.
A Fire Service Spokesperson said: “Call received from the Police to a car that had been driven into a canal with the driver still in the vehicle. An elderly lady was rescued by the Fire Service using a short extension ladder. She was left in the care of a nearby medical centre. The incident was handed over to the Police.”
Fire appliances and water rescue units from Loughborough, Melton Mowbray and Castle Donnington attended the incident.

Leicestershire Police Special Ops officers tweeted after attending the incident earlier today.
They said: “ARV - While assisting @CharnwoodNPA with an arrest attempt a Grade 1 call comes in - ‘Car driven into canal with person stuck’ Excellent response & multi agency working with
@Loughborough999 Driver safe & a little shaken. #OneTeam”
The Fire Service closed the incident at 12:31.
