Firefighters working hard to tackle Vale scrap fire

Firefighters from four counties are currently tackling a large fire in the Vale of Belvoir.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue received a call earlier today (Thursday) to reports of a fire in Langar.

Crews from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire are working hard to fight the fire which involves a large amount of scrap metal.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue who are leading the operation said: “UPDATE | 16:15

We've currently got 12 fire engines and special appliances on the scene of the fire at the Langar Industrial Estate.

This is a fire involving large amounts of scrap metal. Crews have been working hard all afternoon, in extreme heat, and we expect to be here for the remainder of the evening. But residents can be assured the fire is under control.

Thank you to colleagues from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service who are supporting our response to this fire. We've also got a High Volume Pump from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue helping us get water to what is a remote and isolated site.

The spokesperson confirmed 12 fire appliances are at the scene and the fire is now under control but crews will remain on site for the rest of the evening.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service added that both appliances from Melton Mowbray Fire & Rescue Station are in attendance alongside a water carrier from Loughborough.
