Investigation concluded in to fire that destroyed disused house

The cause of a fire at a disused house near Whissendine has not been possible to establish.


Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service (LFRS) received a call at 16:33 on Sunday afternoon to reports of a fire near the A606 in Whissendine.


Seven fire appliances were sent to the incident at the disused and unoccupied house including crews from Melton, Loughborough and Oakham.


A tier two fire investigation was launched but this is now over with no cause being established in to what caused the fire.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "The joint investigation between ourselves and LFRS has concluded. It was not possible to establish a cause.

 

The police scene preservation has been lifted and as the building is located on private land, any further responsibility regarding its structure sits with the owner."

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that an inspection would take place today (Wednesday) at the property - this is believed to be checking for hotspots now the fire has been put out.


The A606 was closed while the fire was dealt with and the investigation undertook resulting in a full lane closure for over 24 hours.
