Major power outage as fire crews tackle two field fires near Melton

More than 500 properties remain without power this afternoon (Tuesday) as firefighters tackle two field fires near Metlon.


Two separate field fires, one north of Whissendine near Melton Mowbray, and another between Whissendine and Langham—have disrupted overhead power lines, resulting in a complete power outage across Whissendine Village.


Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service currently have 7 fire appliances across both sites with crews attending from Melton, Birtstall and Oakham Fire & Rescue Stations.

National Grid is also aware of the incident and estimate that power will be returned by 9pm this evening.


A spokesperson for the company said: "We are aware of the power cut affecting this area.


The incident was raised at 1:27pm this afternoon and our engineers are working to get the power returned as quickly as possible. We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you."


A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that they had resources deplloyed at both incidents.
