Melton supermarket evacuated following reports of a fire inside

A Melton supermarket has been evacuated this afternoon (Friday) following reports of a fire inside the store.


Sainsburys in Nottingham Road, which is also home to Starbucks and Argos, was evacuated just after 3pm on Friday afternoon following reports of a fire inside.


Firefighters have been seen tackling flames coming from what appears to be an extraction unit on the roof.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said: "We currently have two fire appliances from Melton Mowbray in attendance, and they have requested a further two appliances from Eastern Station and the High Reach Appliance from Central Station.

 

The time of the call was 15:22, to reports of a fire at a store in Melton Mowbray."

Multiple fire resources have been seen at the incident including the Command Support vehicle which helps relay information back to Fire Control.


A Sainsbury's spokesperson said, "Our Melton Mowbray store is currently closed so emergency services can attend to an incident. We are working to reopen as soon as possible and are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."
