Police thank public after theft near Melton

Updated: Jul 14, 2021

Officers have thanked the public after a CCTV image of a woman they would like to speak to in connection with a theft near Melton was released.

Today (Wednesday) a Force spokesperson said: “Officers made a CCTV appeal yesterday to speak to a woman in connection with a theft near Melton Mowbray.

The appeal related to a report being made on Monday 21 June of cash and a bank card being stolen from a property in Asfordby some time from Wednesday 16 June.

A number of people made contact with the force following the appeal providing information in relation to the person pictured. Enquiries are continuing.”

It was the home of an 85-year-old woman who was in hospital at the time that was burgled.

£330 cash was stolen from the property and around £1,500 was then withdrawn from various cash points around Melton.

Detective Constable Beth Pick said: “This was a cruel crime carried out with the knowledge that the property was unoccupied.

“Entry was not forced so the person responsible had or was given access to the property.”

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call 101 quoting reference 21*345757.
