Police investigation launched after cigarettes and tobacco stolen from Melton store

Police are investigating after a man threatened members of staff at Melton's Tesco Express store before leaving with cigarettes and tobacco.


Forensic officers from Leicestershire Police were seen at the store in Nottingham Road, Melton this morning (Monday) following the incident last night.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "Officers are carrying out further enquiries after a report of a robbery at a shop in Nottingham Road, Melton, yesterday evening (Sunday 25 September).


A man entered the shop around 9.50pm and threatened members of staff before leaving the premises with cigarettes and tobacco."


Reports on social media suggested a knife was involved in the incident.


The police spokesperson added: "There is no evidence to support this, however enquiries are ongoing."


No one was injured during the incident.
