Asfordby Road in Melton was closed earlier this afternoon between Rudbeck Avenue and Dorothy Avenue due to a road bollard issuing smoke.

The Fire Service were called this afternoon to the bollard close to the junction of Rudbeck Avenue.

The Police had closed the road while Firefighters investigate the cause.

A Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Spokeswoman said: "Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service crews were called at 11:49 to a report of a bollard in the road issuing smoke. It was found to be a burst water mains and the electrics had started smoking. Crews are in attendance and have requested for the attendance of Severn Trent and Western Power."

The road re-opened just after 2:30 but temporary traffic lights remain in place.
