Army experts carried out a controlled explosion of some WW2 grenades after they were discovered by a shocked member of the public while sorting out belongings from their Step Father at their home.
Leicestershire Police confirmed they recieved a call at 9:30am yesterday morning (Tuesday) after a member of the public made the discovery.
A spokesperson for the Force said: " We had a call around 9.30am this morning from the occupants of a house in Laycock Avenue who, while clearing out a relative’s home, came across some WWII incendiary devices. EOD were called to the location and subsequently carried out a controlled explosion in a field nearby."

Melton Response Officers, Neighbourhood Officers, Melton Borough Council, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) worked collaboratively to ensure the items were handled carefully as they were transported to a field on Thorpe Road for the controlled explosion to take place.
An Army Spokesperson added: “We can confirm that 621 Squadron, 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal & Search (EOD&S) Regiment were called out to a suspected item of ordnance in the Melton Mowbray area at the request of Leicestershire Police.
“The item was identified as a World War Two incendiary device and was safely disposed of via controlled explosion.”
Melton Police confirmed on social media that the hole from the blast had since been filled in and the area was made safe.
